DANVILLE, VA – The Randolph College Men's Tennis team continued its spring season last Sunday by travelling to Averett University for a non-conference matchup between the two Virginia private schools. Randolph fell to Averett 6-3, bringing their overall record to 3-2 after a forfeit from Bluefield College the day before.
After doubles play, Randolph trailed Averett 2-1, but picked up a nice doubles victory from sophomore Jason Corsbie (Kingston, Jamaica/American International) and first-year Dang Hai Phung (Hanoi, Vietnam). The doubles pair played in the no. 3 spot to win 8-3 in decisive fashion.
In singles play, the WildCats dropped their first four matches before picking up two singles victories from first-year Zach Dales (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) and Dang Hai Phung. Dales was slotted in the no. 5 position, and defeated his opponent in two sets, 6-0 and 6-1. Phung played from the no. 6 slot, and also defeated his opponent in two sets, 6-3 and 6-2. With those victories, Dales improves his singles record to 4-2 on the year and Phung improves to an undefeated 2-0.
The Randolph Men's Tennis team will be back in action this Thursday, March 1, as they take on Hampden-Sydney College at the Randolph Tennis Courts. Game time is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
