WildCat Men's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to Southern Virginia Thursday

LYNCHBURG, VA -- The Randolph College men's team finished the fall season Thursday afternoon with a tough loss to Southern Virginia University, falling 5-4 in non-conference play.

Randolph was leading after the end of doubles action, thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots by the WildCats. Junior Jason Corsbie (Kingston, Jamaica/American International) and Shaun Chopp (Williamsburg, VA/Hampton Roads Academy) earned an 8-6 win at the second spot. The WildCats got a 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles from Hart Gillespie (Hurt, VA/Altavista) and Zach Dales (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) picked up an 8-6 triumph as well.

The Knights would rally though in single's action, picking up four of the six individual flights to earn the match win. Dales chalked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles while Dan Phung (Hanoi, Vietnam) earned an east 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6. Phung continue to up his career mark to 11 wins, which is the most at the College ever.

Randolph will retire for the winter before starting its spring season with a February 20 match with Virginia Union University at home.
