LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Despite a win at No. 3 singles from sophomore Shaun Chopp (Williamsburg, Va./Tidewater Academy), the Randolph College men's tennis team couldn't rally as it fell to Roanoke College 8-1 Friday afternoon in conference action.
The WildCats (3-8/0-7 ODAC) dropped all three contests in doubles, but the No. 2 pairs match was a thriller. Randolph's team of Chopp and Zach Dales (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) led by two games, but couldn't put their opposition away, dropping a heartbreaker 9-7.
Chopp's victory was a back-and-forth battle, as the sophomore knocked off Lewis Young from Roanoke 6-1, 4-6, 10-8. The win for Chopp snaps a four-match streak without a win for the sophomore.
The WildCats will return to action Saturday afternoon at Randolph-Macon College in league play.
