BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The Randolph College men's tennis team snapped a seven-match losing Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 victory over Bluefield College in non-conference action.
Randolph (4-9) earned two of the three doubles' points, as Zach Dales (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) and Shaun Chopp (Williamsburg, Va./Tidewater Academy) broke through for a thrilling 9-7 victory at No. 2 pairs. Senior Samim Yaquby (Kabul, Afghanistan) and Hart Gillespie (Hurt, Va./Altavista) also earned a win at No. 3 doubles thanks to a walkover win.
In singles' play, the WildCats got wins at No. 2 singles, as Dan Phung (Hanoi, Vietnam) knocked off Bluefield's Ben Rosado in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Gillespie also picked up his second victory of the day, edging out his opponent at No. 4 singles 4-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-1). Dales and Yaquby also earned default wins for Randolph.
Randolph will take on Ferrum College Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in Ferrum, Virginia.
