Ferrum College Men's Tennis Earns Non-Conference Victory Over Randolph College Wednesday

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph College sophomore Hart Gillespie (Hurt, Va./Altavista) earned his fifth win of the season, but the WildCat men's tennis squad couldn't get by Ferrum College Wednesday, falling 8-1 in non-conference action.

Randolph (4-10) trailed 3-0 after doubles' play, though Samim Yaquby (Kabul, Afghanistan) and Gillespie fought hard before falling 8-6 at No. 3 pairs. Gillespie picked up his victory at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Zach Dales (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) won the first set of his match 7-5, but dropped set two 6-1 to force a super tiebreaker. In that breaker, Ferrum's William Sharp edged Dales 10-6 to earn the match victory.

The WildCats will be back in action on Saturday for Senior Day, as Yaquby will be honored before the match with Guilford College at 2 p.m. on the Randolph Tennis Courts.
