LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team was announced Tuesday morning, and Randolph College earned six student-athletes to the 221-member squad that represented 37 schools within the state.
To earn VaSID Academic All-State honors, a student-athlete must have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average and be at least a sophomore. Each school in the state is allowed six nominees. Randolph was represented by three men and three women on the team, each of whom had at least a 3.65 grade point average.
The women honorees for the WildCats were women's soccer player Brianne Roth (Yorktown, Va./Grafton), women's lacrosse player Morgan Thompson (Sandy Hook, Va./Goochland) and softball player Brittney Via (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello). Randolph's male contingent was comprised of men's tennis player Hart Gillespie (Hurt, Va./Altavista), men's lacrosse player John Grundy (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) and men's basketball player Colton Hunt (Whittier, N.C./Smoky Mountain).
VaSID is comprised of sports information or athletics communications professionals from intercollegiate institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Membership is open to any individual affiliated with one of the state's institutions at the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, USCAA and community college levels, provided that individual's area of responsibility lies within the realm of sports information.
