ETTRICK, Va. -- Working with a shortened roster, Virginia State defeated Randolph in men's tennis 6-3 today.
Playing with just five players, Virginia State was forced to concede two matches without taking the court, but took care of business in six of the remaining seven matches.
After doubles, Randolph had a 2-1 lead, thanks to a 9-7 victory by junior Dan Phung (Hanoi, Vietnam/International) and first-year Q Manglapus (Falls Church, Va./-) at second doubles and a walkover win by junior Zach Dales (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) and first-year Tuan Tran (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/High School for the Gifted) at No. 3.
Tran was Randolph's lone victor in singles play, however, as he took a win at No. 6 via forfeit.
Randolph next takes the court against Bridgewater on March 21.
