SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- At the final IHSA show of fall 2013-14 season, Randolph finished third with 33 points.
Hollins and Sweet Briar led the way with 43 points, while Bridgewater had 38. Trailing were UVA with 27, Lynchburg on 24, Washington & Lee with 19, Roanoke at 11 and Liberty with two.
Randolph now falls behind Sweet Briar and Bridgewater in the region by seven and five respectively.
Sophomore Meaghan Hynes (York, Maine/York) and first-year Katya Schwab (Avvada, Colo./Lakewood) started the day in the open portion, with Hynes finishing fourth in flat and second in fences. Schwab had a pair of runner-up finishes.
Neither Stepp nor first-year Kelly Goodwin (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) scored in over fences.
Morgan Hoke (Kingsville, Md./Fallston) continued her tremendous first season, winning in novice flat, continuting her streak of finishing in the top two in every show.
In the novice fences portion, Marissa Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip) and Britnee Kratochvil (Buiffton, S.C./Heritage Academy) each scored, as the first-years came in fourth and third respectively.
Also scoring was Randolph's lone walk-trot-canter rider, junior Averie Morgan (Goldendale, Wash./American School), who finished fifth.
Closing out the day on a strong note was sophomore Blake Vasser (Amelia, Va./Amelia Co.) who won his first IHSA class ever to end the day on a strong note.
The IHSA season will resume in the spring. Randolph has one more show this semester, the Holiday Tournament of Champions on Dec. 7.
