LYNCHBURG, VA – Randolph College rattled off a perfect 6-0 record in singles play to earn a 7-2 victory in women's tennis non-conference action over the Panthers of Ferrum College Tuesday afternoon in play from the new Randolph College Tennis Courts.
The match was delayed for over an hour due to lightning in the Lynchburg area, which forced the match to play all pro sets. Also, the match inverted the normal order of play, having singles go first in the match. This suited Randolph just fine, as the WildCat s (4-3) took care of all six singles flights.
First-year Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamerico)earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 singles, while fellow first-years Anna Culpepper (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) and Kaitlyn Kolster (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) earned wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Senior Janie Campbell (Fredericksburg, VA/James Monroe) breezed to an easy 8-3 win at No. 3 singles to continue her very nice season, while Danielle Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) slid past her opponent at No. 5 singles 8-6. First-yearTiandre Forde (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellum) earned her first collegiate win at No. 6 with a decisive 8-0 win.
Doubles wasn't as successful, but Randolph still picked up a win at No. 2 doubles as Culpepper and Campbell teamed together to capture an 8-2 win.
