Women's Tennis Falls in First Match of a Back-to-Back-to-Back

SALEM, Va. -- Randolph fell, 5-2, today to Roanoke in women's tennis action, opening up a weekend in which the team will play three matches in as many days.

After doubles, Randolph had a 2-1 lead after wins at No. 1 and No. 3.

First-year Alison Henry (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and junior Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) were strong at top doubles, earning an 8-6 win. They were joined by sophomore Sarah Parker (Washington, D.C. / Sidwell Friends) and first-year Heather Parra (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley)  at No. 3, who also won, 8-4.

At second doubles, first-year Jenna Sweet (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) and sophomore Dina Velazco (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Colegio Las Fuertes) fell, 8-5.

In singles play, however, Randolph fell in the top four singles matches, which gave Roanoke the points needed to earn the win.

The WildCats are back in action on Saturday on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day against Shenandoah. The match will start at 2 p.m.
